Founded in 2013 in Jakarta by Imelda Marlina and CEO Floery Dwi Mustika, Sparks Fashion Academy—or SFA—embodies the vision of “Turning Fashion Into Business.” Originally built to nurture design talent, SFA has evolved into a dynamic platform that empowers fashion entrepreneurs (fashionpreneurs), integrating creativity, digital transformation, and sustainability from the outset.

FA places sustainable fashion at the heart of its curriculum. Since about 2018, the academy implemented annual Fashion Altruisme themes, which cultivate principles of circularity—like resource efficiency, low-waste pattern cutting, creative fabric manipulation, and upcycling dead stock. Students are taught mindful production methods, including zero-waste techniques, natural dyeing, and maximizing fabric use through innovative tutorials and workshops.

The academy also showcases practical impact through sustainable runway events, including the 2023 "Wandering eXpansion" showcase at Vertu Harmoni Jakarta. The trunk show featured student and designer collections made with recycled or upcycled materials and natural dyes—reinforcing SFA’s commitment to merging design and environmental responsibility. In parallel, partnerships with ecosystem hubs—such as Jakarta Fashion Hub and Bali’s EcoHub Keliki—provide students with first-hand exposure to circular textile ecosystems.
