Institut Seni Budaya Indonesia (ISBI Bandung)

University

ISBI Bandung is a state‑owned arts and culture university located in Bandung, West Java. Established in 1968 originally as a dance conservatory, it evolved into a full-fledged institute hosting faculties in performing arts, visual arts, design, and culture and media, with accredited undergraduate through graduate programs focused on creative expression informed by tradition and innovation. Within its Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD), the D4 Tata Rias dan Busana (Fashion & Costume Design) program trains applied-service art graduates who develop ready-to-wear, performance costumes, and wearable art—often showcased in national and international venues like Jember Fashion Carnival, Indonesia Fashion Week, and Bandung Broadway.

Sustainability and circular fashion are actively embedded in ISBI’s academic practice through student-driven research and creative projects. Final-year portfolios frequently explore eco-printing, upcycling, and sashiko embroidery techniques that transform used garments and textile scraps into streetwear or wearable art—demonstrating both environmental awareness and design innovation. Examples include IDORE, a collection made entirely from recycled clothing using ecoprint and sashiko methods to reduce fast‑fashion waste. Other student works embrace natural dyeing and reinterpret batik motifs and traditional textiles through sustainable design lenses.
