Torajamelo
Social Enterprise
Established in 2010 (informally since 2008), Torajamelo began in Toraja and formally became both a foundation and social enterprise. Their dual mission is clear: to preserve Indonesia’s backstrap loom weaving traditions while economically empowering rural women artisans across Toraja, Mamasa (Sulawesi), and Lembata & Soe (East Nusa Tenggara). Over 1,100 women weavers are part of Torajamelo’s network—receiving fair wages and collaborating on product collections that respect local identity and craft.
Torajamelo integrates sustainable and circular-minded strategies at every level. As a Certified B Corporation (since March 2023), boasting a B‑Impact Score of 81.1, they uphold high standards in environmental stewardship, worker welfare, and community engagement. Their production minimizes fabric waste by creatively using off-cuts for accessories, prioritizing natural, biodegradable packaging, and promoting reuse in every product layer. They trace and audit carbon footprints for their collections and have pledged zero single-use plastics in offices and events.
Furthermore, Torajamelo is an active participant in the UN Global Compact since June 2022, supporting SDGs including No Poverty, Gender Equality, Responsible Consumption, and Climate Action. Collaborations like AHANA and its re:mello circular initiative help scale impact by expanding safe market access and fostering environmentally conscious microenterprise among Indonesian women-led brands.
