RTL Committed to Decarbonization at Indonesia International Sustainability Forum

Jakarta, August 22, 2024 – Rantai Tekstil Lestari (RTL) proudly joined seven other industry associations in signing a joint declaration titled “Industry Commitment to Decarbonization in Supporting the Low-Carbon Indonesia Transition Towards Net Zero Emissions”. This landmark agreement was formalized during the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024, facilitated by WRI Indonesia and KADIN Indonesia as part of a broader national sustainability agenda.

What's at Stake

The event, Road to Indonesia International Sustainability Forum 2024: New Leadership, New Horizons, convened top leaders from government, international organizations, businesses, and think tanks to steer Indonesia’s efforts in decarbonization and energy transition.

According to ISF official coverage, the forum stands as Indonesia’s signature climate platform—drawing over 11,000 registered participants from 53 countries, supplemented by 100+ global speakers and 12 MoUs signed, along with a joint climate-related commitment declared.

Four Pillars of Industry Commitment

The declaration outlines four crucial commitments, underscoring the collective responsibility of industry leaders:

  • Measure emissions, set realistic reduction targets, and report progress transparently.

  • Accelerate adoption of renewable energy and low-carbon technologies.

  • Enhance fiscal incentives and financial mechanisms to support decarbonization.

  • Advocate policies that nurture a robust low-carbon product ecosystem and market.

These commitments reflect a shared vision across sectors to transition from incremental improvements toward transformative green growth.

RTL’s Role & Leadership

At the signing, Chairman Basrie Kamba represented RTL, reaffirming the association’s pledge to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 or earlier—a key milestone in Indonesia’s sustainable industrial transformation.

This collaborative venture paints a broader narrative: Indonesia, as Southeast Asia’s largest economy, is positioning itself not only as a major consumer but also as a leader in crafting sustainable industrial systems.

Amplifying a Shared Vision

WRI Indonesia, a node of the global non-profit World Resources Institute—focused on issues spanning energy, forests, climate, cities, and governance—champions such multi-stakeholder coalitions for systemic transformation

ISF, as a premier climate forum hosted by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) in partnership with KADIN, has reinforced Indonesia’s role as a sustainability hub, emphasizing collaboration, green finance, and actionable strategies

By joining this declaration, RTL underlines its role as a forward-thinking force in Indonesia’s textile sector—committed to environmental stewardship, innovation, and collective accountability. This alignment with national efforts and global standards cements RTL’s position within the green industrial transition.
