Empowering Future Leaders at BINUS University
As part of long-term partnership with BINUS University, Rantai Tekstil Lestari (RTL) was invited to BINUS University International on June 5, 2025, to deliver a guest lecture on the topic “Sustainability in Textile Industry.” The session was led by Anya Sapphira, Deputy Chair of RTL, as part of the alliance’s ongoing academic collaboration with higher education institutions across Indonesia.
This session aimed to ignite awareness among university students, who will be the next generation of professionals and decision-makers in the fashion and textile industry. Through the session, RTL hoped to embed the importance of sustainability as a core competency, not just a trend.
What Students Learned
Anya’s presentation walked students through the entire value chain of the fashion industry, uncovering environmental and social risks embedded in every stage—from raw material sourcing to garment manufacturing. She also emphasized:

70% of fashion’s carbon emissions originate upstream, especially during textile production and wet processing.

The need for global standards and certifications such as GOTS, BCI, GRS, and FSC to ensure environmental and labor responsibility.

The socio-economic complexities of the garment industry, where factories remain labor-intensive, often female-dominated, and prone to poor working conditions if not carefully managed.

Real-world initiatives and science-based targets taken by brands like H&M, NIKE, and Adidas, highlighting the rising expectations for measurable climate action.
A Broader Goal: Building Responsible Professionals

Through this collaboration, RTL encourages students to see sustainability not as a constraint, but as a driver of innovation, competitiveness, and ethics in fashion.
