The SMERU Research Institute (SMERU) is an independent Indonesian institution dedicated to conducting high-quality research and policy studies on a wide range of socioeconomic issues. With over 20 years of experience, the institute focuses primarily on the themes of poverty and inequality, social protection, and human development in Indonesia. SMERU actively promotes evidence-based, pro-poor policies at both national and regional levels by providing rigorous data to governments, civil society, and international development partners. A hallmark of their methodology is the integration of the Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) approach across all projects to ensure that marginalized groups are represented in policy outcomes. Guided by a vision of a world free from poverty, the institute operates with strict objectivity and independence, and it has been officially recognized as equivalent to a U.S. Public Charity organization.
