Yayasan KEHATI

Environmental NGO

Yayasan KEHATI, founded in January 1994 by leading environmental figures including Emil Salim and Nono Anwar Makarim, serves as a national hub for biodiversity conservation and sustainable natural resource management. As a non-profit institution, KEHATI has collaboratively supported over 1,500 local organizations—from Aceh to Papua—with more than USD 200 million in grants and programs—funds sourced from governments, private donors, philanthropists, and crowd‑funding.

KEHATI is also a key pioneer of ESG and impact investing in Indonesia: collaborating with the Indonesia Stock Exchange since 2009 to establish landmark stock indices—SRI‑KEHATI, ESG Sector Leaders IDX KEHATI, and ESG Quality 45 IDX KEHATI—that benchmark corporate sustainability performance. More recently, KEHATI launched the ESG Award by KEHATI (since 2023) to recognize excellence in ESG implementation across capital markets and impact investment sectors. In 2021, KEHATI partnered with BNP Paribas Asset Management to receive a Sustainable Investment in Action award for its impact fund supporting sustainable agriculture and climate‑resilient livelihoods in NTT via sorghum cultivation programs.

Leader in Biodiversity Protection

Yayasan KEHATI exemplifies how environmental stewardship, scientific rigor, and community empowerment can align to protect Indonesia’s rich biodiversity—making it a natural and powerful partner within RTL’s sustainable ecosystem mission.

Implementing integrated programs in forests, agriculture, and marine environments—such as TFCA, mangrove and coral reef protection—to preserve Indonesia’s biodiversity landscape.

Leveraging local knowledge and participatory approaches across regions—strengthening governance and sustainable livelihoods alongside ecological goals.

Facilitating direct financing to SMEs and farmer communities in climate‑sensitive agriculture (e.g. sorghum in NTT), supported by award‑winning partnerships like BNP Paribas SRI KEHATI Fund.

Spotlighting youth activism: the Biodiversity Warriors movement (since 2014) has mobilized young Indonesians to champion biodiversity via education, advocacy, and field work—including creation of thousands of journals and catalogs.

Developing Indonesia’s pioneering ESG indices (SRI‑KEHATI, ESG Sector Leaders, ESG Quality 45) in partnership with BEI since 2009.
