Jakarta, 8 June 2026 — Rantai Tekstil Lestari (RTL), as the National Lead of Circular Fashion Partnership (CFP) Indonesia, convened a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) titled “Co-Creating Indonesia’s Textile Circularity Multi-Stakeholder Platform” on Monday, 8 June 2026, at The Grove Suite by Grand Aston, Jakarta. The discussion gathered government, industry, brands, recyclers, SMEs, academia, designers, and consumer-facing actors to strengthen coordination for circular textile solutions in Indonesia.
The discussion was held as part of CFP Indonesia’s continued effort to strengthen coordination and collaboration within Indonesia’s circular textile ecosystem. Through the FGD, RTL gathered stakeholder perspectives on the proposed Multi-Stakeholder Platform, particularly regarding its scope, structure, functions, priorities, and potential role in supporting practical circular textile solutions in Indonesia.
Strengthening Coordination Across the Textile Circularity Ecosystem
Indonesia’s textile and fashion sector has growing potential to participate in circular economy development, from improved textile waste management and post-industrial waste recovery to recycling, reuse, responsible design, and more credible circularity claims. However, many circularity initiatives still operate across different actors, sectors, and stages of the value chain, requiring stronger coordination and clearer pathways for collaboration.
The proposed Multi-Stakeholder Platform was discussed as a mechanism to connect waste producers, collectors, recyclers, brands, policymakers, knowledge institutions, and other relevant actors. The platform is envisioned to serve as a centralised hub for stakeholder networks, ecosystem mapping, policy insights, case studies, and collaborative initiatives that can support the development of a common agenda for circular textile solutions in the Indonesian context.
This platform is expected to serve as a knowledge and collaboration infrastructure that helps Indonesia’s textile, apparel, and fashion industries move toward a more circular, trustworthy, and competitive ecosystem.
Basrie Kamba, Chair of RTL
Diverse Stakeholder Perspectives
The FGD featured moderated breakout discussions, with participants grouped based on their roles within the textile and fashion ecosystem. The discussion groups covered:
- Manufacturers and Brands, focusing on industry participation, production realities, and the role of brands and manufacturers in circular textile systems.
- Government, Bank and Academia, focusing on policy alignment, knowledge generation, enabling frameworks, and institutional support.
- SMEs, Recyclers, and Certification Actors, focusing on collection, recycling, certification, traceability, and operational challenges in circular solutions.
- Designers, Retail, and Consumer Ecosystem, focusing on how circular textile solutions can become more desirable, credible, marketable, and effectively communicated to consumers.
The session also included an introduction to the Multi-Stakeholder Platform initiative as part of the CFP Indonesia programme led by Global Fashion Agenda, a discussion on the relevance of the creative economy in the circular economy, and a presentation on the proposed MSP design and structure.
The importance of moving from discussion to implementation was also emphasized by the Senior Officer of Ministry of Industry, Mr. Andi Susanto:
This work to develop a dedicated circular textile platform simply has to begin. If we do not get started, we will never fully understand where the challenges lie or what solutions are most appropriate. This process needs to be approached with a learning-by-doing mindset. We congratulate RTL and all parties involved, and the Ministry of Industry stands ready to support where we can.
Andi Susanto, Senior Expert Functional Officer for Industrial Development at the Directorate of Textile, Leather, and Footwear Industry, Ministry of Industry.
Insights from the FGD will contribute to the further development of the proposed Multi-Stakeholder Platform under CFP Indonesia. The inputs gathered will help inform the platform’s design, priority activities, and future collaboration agenda to support a more connected and actionable textile circularity ecosystem in Indonesia.
