Jakarta, December 2, 2025 – Rantai Tekstil Lestari (RTL) successfully convened its Annual General Meeting (Rapat Umum Anggota/RUA) for 2025 at Fraser Place, Setiabudi,. Bringing together executive board members, supervisory boards, industry partners, and academics, the meeting marked a pivotal moment for the organization. The agenda focused on accountability reports, strategic planning for 2026, and the election of the new management board for the 2025–2029 period.
A Vision of Sovereignty and Sustainability
The event opened with remarks from the Executive Board, emphasizing RTL’s four years’ journey. Basrie Kamba, Chairman of RTL, highlighted the organization’s mission to serve as a multi-stakeholder hub for advocacy, education, and engagement regarding sustainable materials and policies.
He stressed the urgency of the moment, noting that global demand for sustainable and circular raw materials is accelerating rapidly. Basrie reinforced RTL’s commitment to ensuring that sustainability clauses are integrated into the upcoming Textile Bill (RUU Pertekstilan) currently being deliberated in parliament.
Connecting remotely, Anya Shafira, Chair of the Supervisory Board, reminded members that the transformation toward a green industry is no longer a trend but a necessity driven by global regulations and consumer demand. She highlighted the Indonesia-EU trade agreement as a massive opportunity for zero-tariff exports, provided that Indonesian producers can meet strict sustainability standards.
Strategic Impact: From Advocacy to Action
RTL’s Secretary General, Satrio Pratama, reporting on RTL’s activities, detailed the organization’s shift from advocacy to concrete action. A key achievement in 2024 was the launch of the Circular Fashion Partnership (CFP) Indonesia, which focuses on managing post-industrial textile waste.
Looking ahead to 2026, RTL outlined several critical initiatives:
- Multi-Stakeholder Platform: Building a platform to connect waste producers, collectors, and recyclers to facilitate a circular supply chain.
- Pilot Projects: Launching a concrete pilot project for Textile-to-Textile recycling in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, specifically targeting waste from bonded zones.
- Policy Advocacy: Supporting stakeholders in advocating policies that enable a circular and sustainable textile ecosystem including to support the National Circular Economy Action Plan, as many existing waste management laws date back to 2008–2009.
Expert Insights and Industry Challenges
The meeting featured a dynamic response session, where RTL’s Honorary Board Member, Svida Alisjahbana, emphasized that while local brands are adopting sustainable materials, there is a significant gap in how they communicate these value-adds to consumers.
“Sustainability is not just ‘nice to have’; it is a tangible challenge,” Svida noted. She urged RTL to bridge the gap between large industries and local artisans (UMKM), ensuring that sustainable, affordable yarns are accessible to prevent over-reliance on imported materials.
Danang from the Indonesian Textile Association (API) added that RTL must lead the narrative on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), noting that the government is pushing for accountability not just in textiles but across consumer goods.
New Leadership for 2025–2029
In accordance with the organization’s statutes, the meeting proceeded with the election of the new governance structure for the 2025–2029 period. The assembly agreed via consensus to re-elect the current leadership core to ensure continuity of the robust programs currently in motion. Basrie Kamba was reconfirmed as Chairman, with support from the new appointed members of the executive board to continue the RTL’s positive trajectory.
Workshop Session: From Sketch to Story
The event concluded with an inspiring workshop titled “From Sketch to Story: Building a Brand that Feels Personal” by Yuliana Fitri (Uli), founder of Aruna Creative,.
Uli shared her journey of building a sustainable brand that empowers marginalized communities, including people with disabilities and vocational students. She showcased how Aruna Creative utilizes sustainable fibers, such as those from Asia Pacific Rayon (APR), and innovative techniques like “Wastra on Denim” to penetrate global markets, including Paris. Her session underscored the power of storytelling in adding value to sustainable products.
The 2025 Annual General Meeting proved that Rantai Tekstil Lestari has transitioned from a budding organization to a financially independent, strategic leader in Indonesia’s textile sector. With a solidified roadmap for 2026 and a re-elected leadership team, RTL is poised to drive the national agenda on circularity, ensuring Indonesia remains competitive in the green global economy.
