Circular Economy: Responsibility and Innovation Opportunity
As part of its commitment to advancing sustainable and circular practices in the textile industry, Rantai Tekstil Lestari (RTL) was invited to speak at the National Workshop on Circular Economy: A Responsible Business and Innovation Opportunity for Indonesian Businesses, held on July 24, 2025, at Gran Mahakam Hotel, Jakarta.
The workshop was organized by the ASEAN Circular Economy Business Alliance (ACEBA) with support from various regional and international stakeholders, including SWITCH-Asia.
Representing RTL on the panel was Mr. Basrie Kamba, who shared insights on how RTL is supporting its member organizations in transitioning toward Circular Economy (CE) practices—particularly within Indonesia’s complex textile value chain. He outlined RTL’s ongoing efforts to build an ecosystem that prioritizes transparency, collaborative innovation, and accountability among brands, suppliers, and policymakers.
Key Questions Addressed:
How is RTL supporting its members to adopt CE practices?
RTL introduced its multi-stakeholder approach, which includes advocacy for circular policy reforms, practical toolkits for sustainable material use, and capacity-building workshops for small and medium-sized textile enterprises. What are the main challenges in implementing CE in the textile industry?
Mr. Kamba highlighted barriers such as limited access to circular infrastructure, lack of incentives for textile recyclers, and the dominance of synthetic-blended textiles that are difficult to recover. How can ACEBA support Indonesian businesses in the CE transition?
RTL proposed several strategic priorities for ACEBA, including localized metrics for circularity, cross-sector pilot programs, and regional knowledge-sharing platforms to empower textile innovators.
“We are proud to contribute to shaping a circular future for ASEAN, starting with the textile sector in Indonesia. Our collaboration with ACEBA reflects RTL’s commitment to being both a bridge and a catalyst for sustainable transformation.”
Basrie Kamba, Chair of RTL
Why This Matters
The event served as an important platform for aligning national CE roadmaps with grassroots business action. Through RTL’s participation, the voice of Indonesia’s textile sustainability movement was represented among key decision-makers from ASEAN, European chambers, and government bodies like BAPPENAS.
