Shaping the Future of Responsible Textiles: RTL in Testex–SGS ZDHC Workshop

Jakarta, September 3, 2024 – Rantai Tekstil Lestari (RTL) took an active role in the “CEO Gathering: Strategic Sustainability from Source to Shelf – Securing the Future of the Textile and Fashion Industry”, held at The Dharmawangsa Hotel, Jakarta.

Gathering Industry Leaders and Experts

This pivotal event was organized by the British Standards Institution (BSI) in collaboration with TESTEX and the Indonesian Textile Association (API), and supported by APR. The gathering brought together CEOs, industry leaders, and sustainability experts to discuss critical transformations shaping the future of the textile and fashion industry.

Representing RTL, Prana Yudha Amdan, Secretary General of RTL, shared insights on how sustainability-focused activities are set to become standard practice in the near future.

RTL’s involvement in this prestigious anniversary celebration underscores its ongoing commitment to fostering innovation, sharing knowledge, and supporting the textile industry’s transformation into a more sustainable sector. By engaging with industry leaders such as Groz-Beckert, RTL continues to strengthen its role as a bridge between stakeholders in Indonesia’s textile ecosystem.

The discussions highlighted the significant opportunities for Indonesia, as Southeast Asia’s largest economy, to not only adapt but also lead the development of a sustainable textile industry.

Key themes included:

  • Strengthening sustainable raw material supply chains.

  • Expanding the role of testing and certification institutions.

  • Ensuring traceability as a strategic solution in sustainable textiles.

“Sustainability is no longer optional—it is the new baseline. By 2026, consumers are expected to prioritize sustainable products, and by 2029, these products are projected to dominate the market. The industry must prepare collectively,” he emphasized.

Marc Sidler from TESTEX AG underscored the importance of certification in building trust, transparency, and durability within the textile and fashion industries. Certification ensures products meet rigorous sustainability standards while enhancing market competitiveness.

RTL’s participation reflects its strong commitment to fostering collaboration, building awareness, and driving the transition toward a more sustainable textile ecosystem in Indonesia.
